Breast- feeding after a breast augmentation:

If you had a breast augmentation surgery and your breast have been surgically enlarged with silicone or saline implants, your nipples may be more or less sensitive than normal. After you’ve delivered a baby, your milk has come in and you may have exaggerated breast enlargement. Because of this you may experience pain, fever and the chills are more intense than usual.

Breast- feeding after a breast augmentation surgery can be done depending on the kind of surgery you had, but you have to know that most breast enhancement surgeries approaches are compatible with breast-feeding. Incisions made under the fold of the breast or through the armpit shouldn’t cause any problem, but the incision around the areola increases your risk of having breast-feeding problems.

It is also possible your milk supply to be affected by a breast augmentation surgery you’ve done before having a baby, but you won’t know exactly how this thing will affect you until you’ll try to nurse. If you are able to produce only a portion of breast milk your baby needs, it is possible you’ll need special supplements or a donor milk. You’ll have to tell to your doctor about the breast augmentation surgery you’ve done before having a baby, because the doctor will need to keep a close eye on your baby weight gain to be sure the baby is getting enough to eat.

In case you had a breast enlargement surgery because you had underdeveloped breasts it is possible you may have problems producing enough milk and in this situation it is recommended to use a pump after each session to stimulate milk production.

What you need to know more about this subject is the fact that having breast implants shouldn’t worry you that breast-feeding will cause sagging. Having a breast augmentation and then nursing your baby by breast –feeding will not change the appearance of your breasts because the implants are placed under the breast gland, either above or under the pectoralis muscle.
