Shiatsu massage is a therapy style founded in Japan by combining oriental massage techniques with modern concepts of anatomy and physiology of Western medicine. Shiatsu consists predominantly in application of pressure techniques with the fingers, hands or elbow on acupuncture points. Secondary , are used techniques of neurocranial massage and techniques of classic Swedish massage. Acupuncture and Shiatsu stimulate the body to produce its own painkiller substances called “endorphins”. They are secreted in the brain and provides a feeling of “good” or pleasure. Also, Western doctors found in clinical trials specific points of tension in the body, which when are handled we’ll have a particularly amelioration of musculoskeletal pain. The location of these points are correlate with the acupuncture points of traditional Chinese medicine. Asian doctors have determined that ancient vital energy (Qi in Chinese) circulates in the body along meridians, linking together organs and various parts of the body. Qi maintain and nourish our physical body as well as our mind. Qi produces blood circulation, heats the body and fight against diseases. When a person is healthy, Qi circulates through the normal channels, but when for one reason or another Qi is blocked or weak the symptoms of an illness appear. During the treatment, the therapeutic goal is to improve the flow of Qi by inserting needles and applying pressure on specific points along the meridians. Acupuncture and shiatsu have a preventive role, correcting energy flow before a serious condition will install. If the disease is already in development, it can be ameliorated or cured by adjusting the flow of Qi. Shiatsu is recommended for a healthy person for disease prevention but also it is recommended and to the sick persons.
A significant benefit of Shiatsu massage is a state of physical and mental relaxation that this type of massage induces. When the stress is installing, either mental or physical the manifestations are internal, but also external – to the skin and muscle tissues. As a result, specific points or entire regions become painful, tense, sensitive. Shiatsu acts as analgesic, relaxing, refreshing, balancing therapy. It can successfully improve conditions such as tendonitis, muscle strains, headaches, neck and shoulder pain, sciatica, back pain, arthritis pain, muscle tension, neuralgia, insomnia, nervousness, menstrual problems, circulatory problems, stress related problems, constipation, anxiety, chronic fatigue, stress. These are common problems for which traditional medicine is sometimes ineffective. Shiatsu promises no cure, but it improves these medical conditions.
